What is therapy for?
Life can be stressful, with unexpected events, challenging relationships, confusions and disappointments. Some individuals even struggle with significant mental health or substance use conditions. Regular therapy sessions can be an opportunity for you to take some time for yourself and make sense of your life, what has happened to you, what you want, and to have support in making helpful changes and manage chronic conditions.
What can I expect?
We will talk about whatever is on your mind, your thoughts, dreams, feelings, or even your difficulty sensing or talking about what you are really feeling. Whatever happens in therapy we will use to make positive change. My role is to really listen to you, and together we will make connections between your circumstances, your thoughts, and your behaviors. The insight you will gain will help you move towards your personal goals, improved relationships, and a greater sense of wellbeing.
How often and how long?
Therapy is typically most effective when clients attend one 45-minute session per week. Some problems might not take long at all to address, while more chronic mental health conditions can take years for significant change to occur. The average length of personal therapy is between 12 and 24 months, but it is completely up to you to decide when you wish to leave therapy. Effective therapy relies on a real and intimate relationship between a client and their therapist built on trust, respect, and shared goals, and this relationship takes time to build.
Do you prescribe medications?
Upon your request, I work closely with psychiatrists and other medical doctors who can provide psychiatric evaluations and prescribe medications when needed, and collaborate with them to coordinate treatment efforts.
Do you take insurance?
Yes, I am an in-network provider with Fidelis Care (including Medicaid) and Aetna. If I am not in-network with your insurance, I will gladly submit the paperwork for you so you can access your out-of-network benefits (which are often generous, so there may be very reasonable out-of-pocket cost to you).
What if I do not have insurance?
Rate range is typically $275-$350, but a sliding fee scale is available based on income. Please inquire for more specifics.
